Course Description:
This course provides an introduction to the field of psycholinguistics, a discipline that
explores the psychological
processes underlying the acquisition, production, and comprehension of language. It covers areas
such as speech
perception, word recognition, language acquisition, sentence comprehension, and sentence
production. Topics of focal
interest include the development of language skills, the relation between language and
cognition, and the mechanisms
involved in language acquisition.
Course Objectives:
- Define the nature of human language;
- Explain the cognitive processes involved in language use;
- Identify the basic areas of the brain involved in language and describe the functions
carried out by these areas.
- Analyse the mental mechanisms active in language comprehension.
- Discuss the various stages of language development.
